Villa JohannesburgHere the first photo of a large series of photos of the Villa Orchid Lodge. Here the main entrance of apartment 1. To understand the setup, you have to imagine that 5 houses are built against the rock (all facing north, the sunny side in the southern hemisphere) to create an incredible view of one of the greenest cities of the world. The lower house contains 2 apartments (one of 100 and one of 105 m2). The main entrance gives access to a hall that gives access to apartment 1 but also to the stairs that lead to apartments 3 and 4 on 1st floor and apartment 6 on 2nd floor.

This photo shows how the houses that make up Orchid Lodge are built against the rock like swallow nests.

Villa JohannesburgThis is the middle house of “Orchid Lodge”, house that is partly built on stilts and stands against the rock and partly on the entrance hall of apartment 1. This second house contains apartments 3 and 4.
Apartment 3 (46.5 m2) is accessible through the main entrance if you climb a staircase from the hall. Apartment 4 (42.75 m2) is accessible via a wide external staircase that runs up behind the swimming pool near the palm tree.
Apartment 3 has a sitting room and bedroom, a pantry and a bathroom with bath, toilet, sink and a shower.
Apartment 4 has a large sitting room and kitchen, plus a bathroom with bath, sink, toilet and urinal.

Side view of apartment 1 of “Orchid Lodge”. This house under the red tile roof was already in this place in 1938 when architect Breedveld and his wife arrived in Amsterdam from Johannesburg.

They converted it into a house with a large living room with a parquet floor (which is still present), a open fireplace (still present), an open kitchen with a bar, a spacious bedroom, a bathroom with toilet (kitchen and bathroom are completely renewed in 2007) and a children’s room. This apartment is 105 m2 and has a large terrace and a private terrace.

Apartment 6, the highest located apartment of “Orchid Lodge”. A view into the huge L-shaped sitting room (76.5 m2 in total) of apartment 6 that covers the entire upper house on the 3rd floor. This apartment is very suitable as a private home for the manager couple / owner of the B&B.

The apartment has the huge L-shaped sitting room with an open kitchen and dining room that are built around a huge terrace. The living room / dining room / open kitchen measures 76.5 m2.

Furthermore, this apartment has 3 bedrooms, a bathroom with bath and shower + toilet and 2 extra bathrooms with shower and toilet.

If a manager couple / owner lives in this 150 m2 apartment, there are still 5 or 6 apartments left to rent (5 if you maintain the resident gardener / handyman who lives in apartment 7).
