8A RUSSIAN ICON DEPICTING SAINT NICOLAS THE SAVIOR OF MOZAISK

This impressive Icon, shows St.Nicolas as the Savior of Mozaisk.
In one hand he holds a model of the city, in the other a sword, he used to chase away the Tartar invaders, who time and again were sacking Mozaisk.
Christ and the Virgin Mary are offering St.Nicolas a Gospel Book and a stole,
signs of his dignity as a Bishop.
In the border on the right, we see Empress Alexandra and Empress Helena.
In the border on the left, the Holy Monk Maxim and Empress Constantin the Great.
On the lower right and left corners we see some unusual calligraphy.
Late 18th century, 42×34 cm.
